What do they call you?
Since this will be the first grandchild, the question comes up, "what do they call you?" The first grandchild has a foundational role in identifying your "name." My first daughter picked up the term "grandmamma" from our talk about her grandmother. She understood that her grandfather was both the same and different. Her logical deduction was that he should have a similar but not identical name. Therefore her label was "gram."
There are so many variations. While parental influence plays a role, ultimately, the first grandchild names you. That name will endure and perhaps even cross family sides. My brother and I were near the end of the grandchildren on one side of the family but the first two on the other side. We picked up the "grandparental names" from Mom's side and carried them to Dad's side of the family - establishing them for generations. Since my parents came from different states, the name carried over geographical boundaries (part of what is called "Human Geography").
Enough for now...stormy blessings (Rita)!
